NAVigating your career in fund finance
As more funds look to NAV-based facilities as an alternative to portfolio-level finance, Brickfield is seeing increasing demand from new lenders entering the market and law firms for fund finance specialists with experience in this evolving area.
While NAV lending is so far mainly a non-bank specialty and will continue to be so, we believe that it will continue to rise in importance during 2021 – market players on the legal side report a significant uptick in NAV contract volumes for 2020 with higher expectations for this year.
We are also seeing continued demand from new lenders looking to build their fund finance teams by sourcing experienced industry players, an indication that the non-bank section of the market will continue to grow in 2021, along with career opportunities for fund finance professionals looking to develop in that direction.
As more specialty lenders enter the portfolio financing market, we are also seeing law firms increasingly require partner-level talent with experience in dealing with NAV-based facilities.
Given that NAV loans are an inherently more complex (and potentially costly) vehicle for PE funds to opt for due to their security considerations and highly structured nature, experienced associates with NAV facility experience are also expected to be sought after this year.
